Platax pinnatus - As juveniles the captive bred pinnate batfish has a deep jet black body with long, flowing fins with a vibrant fiery orange border all around. As they age that jet black fades into a dusky red and silver body. These captive bred batfish are in varying stages of maturity and coloration.

Wild-caught Pinnate Batfish are considered to be nearly impossible to keep in captivity. They're very finicky eaters and don't acclimate well from the wild to captivity. That's what makes these captive bred Pinnate Batfish so special - they're better suited to aquarium life and already eating prepared foods like frozen spirulina brine shrimp and mysis. They may even be easier to train to eat other prepared foods like pellet foods and dried seaweeds than wild caught batfish. These omnivores need a varied diet of meaty foods and macroalgae to stay healthy.

Although captive bred Pinnate Batfish are easier to keep, we recommend these for expert aquarists with very large aquariums. This species is exempt from our Livestock Guarantee.
