Avatar Last Airbender design. Avatar: The Last Airbender (also known as Avatar: The Legend of Aang in some PAL regions) is an Emmy award-winning American animated television series, created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. The show is a fusion of East Asian, South Asian and Western culture, mixing elements of Japanese anime and Western cartoons. The show follows Aang, an Air Nomad who trains in elemental airbending, ultimately becoming the Avatar (someone who is capable of using all four bending arts: airbending, waterbending, earthbending and firebending). His allies include Iroh, King Bumi, Gyatso, Hakoda and Kuzon. Aang also has a flying lemur pet called Momo and a loyal sky bison called Appa. Other characters featuring in these designs are Zuko, Toph Beifong, Katara and Sokka. The show has also spawned a sequel series, titled The Legend of Korra, which takes place seventy years after the original show.
